WoW: MoP Blue post regarding the beta invites (via the annual pass)

We want to confirm that, at this time, all World of Warcraft Annual Pass subscribers have been invited to the Mists of Pandaria beta test, with two groups of exceptions. One exception group are those who purchased an Annual Pass on or after April 18, and will receive their invite in a future wave. The second exception is a small list of remaining accounts from previous waves that encountered an error, and will be properly flagged for beta access as soon as we can resolve the issue.

If you haven't yet purchased an Annual Pass, you still have time to guarantee your spot in the beta by signing up for a year agreement before the offer expires on April 30. Those taking advantage of the Annual Pass receive Diablo III for free, access to the Mists of Pandaria beta, and the exclusive Tyrael's Charger flying mount for your World of Warcraft characters.

Mists of Pandaria Beta - Build 15650

A new update came out this morning, WoW: MoP Build 5.0.1 15650 (BETA). Note that this patch is not yet pushed to the launcher, so you can't *normally* download it. Bluepost about that - here.

In general this *should* fix now the nasty stability issue that we experienced with the previous beta patch. Also it includes a lot of new PvP stuff - PvP trinkets, PvP Sets (rogue&shaman), PvP weapons, as well as several items  and achievements. As usual almost all classes have some modifications regarding their spells.

As usual you can read all about the new changes at MMO-Champion. (seems like they are the only ones to have information about it until it's officially out on the PTR)
As soon as I can, I'll post links to WoWHeadNews an several other blogs.

This build now adds a WoW-64.exe for the 64Bit OS systems. It also comes with a WoWError-64.exe.

How to enable your own addons in MoP Beta Build 15589

To be able to use your own Addons:

Just run the exe and it will patch any open wow.exe it finds.
Also, note that the addon api is a bit incomplete atm (several functions seem to be either missing or renamed) so don't expect all your addons to run flawlessly.

Or you can use your favorite hex editor and edit wow.exe directly: search for sequence: 0x8B, 0x47, 0x24, 0x83, 0xF8, 0x02, 0x75 and replace first 3 bytes of it (0x8B, 0x47, 0x24) with 0x33, 0xC0, 0x90.

[Fix] MoP beta - Crash fix for build 15640

This fix fixes the stability issues in the 15640 MoP Beta build.

As far as I know the issue with the bad stability and missing pointer is fixed in the 15650 build. Just patch up your client. If you see all realms red, in means that you need to patch your wow client to the latest build, just run launcher.exe. If you get any error, just read any of my other blog posts on how to fix that.

The problem should have been fixed in Build 15650.

Pandaren Master Baiter (5.0.1 beta fail)

Well, now that's a fail :D


If you don't get the pun, repeat Master Baiter a few times (masterbaiter.. masturbator). The poor panda, all he wants to do is masturbate quietly while he is selling his bait and ugly dwarfs come to his place :( Someone should post it on Liveleak or selfowned or 9gag at least.
It seems that this is the new pandaren fishing end level supplier doh.

WoW betas - timeline

I found interesting information about the official "press-release" dates of the Betas so far (starting with burtning crusade, wrath of the lich king, cataclysm and now mist of pandaria) at wowwiki.com

Mists of Pandaria A closed beta test period was announced on March 20, 2012 with invites going to Annual Pass holders, press, fansites, friends and family, and opt-in beta testers. MMO Champion may have gotten access soon after the opt-in announcement and an official announcement of the start of the Beta was released late March 21st, 2012.
Level 85 Monk premades were made available on April 8th, 2012 (likely in Patch 5.0.1 build 15544).

Looting in Mist of Pandaria explained

An explanation of the looting way in current cataclysm and the next expansion.
Here is how looting works in today’s Raid Finder groups:
  1.     The boss dies.
  2.     The game randomly decides which items off of the boss’s loot table drop.
  3.     The group rolls Need, Greed, or Pass on each item.
  4.     If you were raiding with a group of friends, you might discuss who should get each item. Even if you ultimately lost, hopefully you are happy that a friend got an upgrade and that your group as a whole is now a little bit stronger.
  5.     But if you’re in Raid Finder, you are quite possibly alone with a bunch of strangers.
  6.     So, if you can Need, you probably do, because there’s no time for discussion, some of the rollers may be AFK, and even if you piss someone off, you aren’t likely to have to pay the social cost of doing so since you’ll never see them again.
  7.     The highest roll wins.
  8.     Drama ensues.
Here’s how the new Raid Finder system will work in Mists of Pandaria:
  1.     The boss dies.
  2.     The game automatically decides who won some loot, and gives those players a spec-appropriate item.
  3.     Some players may still get mad, but hopefully they are mad at the laws of probability and not at the rest of the raid.

Current progress with WoW MoP Beta Servers/Sandbox

So far all that I've found about the current progress is that on one hand you have people like Crommon who have managed to made a primitive sandbox with which you can go to the character creation and customisation screen (See video)


And on another hand there are people who are trying to run an actual server, based on StrawberryCore (link below) and the main contributor so far is Fabi (link below). The main problems currently remain:
* finding all of the needed OP_CODES client<->server
* creation a proper map_extractor for MoP MPQ Data files
* getting all of the needed MAPs, DBCs and VMAPs, even doh for a sandbox you're not 100% necessary to all of them.
* Creating and populating a MoP World SQL DB. WoWDB is working rapidly in to creating a good enough DB. Many contributors and alone-developrs are also working daily on that.

A great help is any packet sniff&dump, Cache folder data, WTF folder data and so on.

[Fixed] How to: fix the "Error: The file "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft beta\Updates\wow-0-16030-Win-final.MPQ" appears to be corrupt. You may need to download this file again.

How to fix the "Error: The file "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft beta\Updates\wow-0-16030-Win-final.MPQ" appears to be corrupt. You may need to download this file again." shown at the WoW: MoP beta Launcher.
This fix works for every Win-final.MPQ error of this sort (such as 16030, etc.)

Go to the Updates folder (for instance C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Updates) and try running again the Launcher.
That worked for me flawlessly.
If you still experience any problems you could right click the Launcher.exe and choose Run as Administrator.
If that doesn't helps you could try running the Repair.exe and deleting the Cache folder.


It seems that it can happen with any patch, so do the same step as well. I just received the same error for the next build, 
ERROR: The file "\World of Warcraft beta\Updates\wow-0-16030-Win-final.MPQ" appears to be corrupt. You may need to download this file again.

This tutorial works in any game-client language, but let's write it in one more:

How to fix WoW Launcher: "Error: The file Localization.xml" could not be loaded."


Right click on the Launcher.exe or the shortcut and select Run as Administrator.
Done! That worked for me.
If it doesn't work for you, you can delete the Cache folder (World of Warcraft\Cache) and try again.
Another way would be to close the Agent.exe process.

[Fixed] WoW Launcher "Failed to read a required file"

If your WoW Launcher.exe for Mist of Pandaria (MoP 5.0.4) gives you the error on loading "Failed to read a required file" then hit CTRL+ALT+DEL, start the task manager, find the Agent.exe and hit End process.

Once this is done you will be able to start your client. If again you have problems run the Launcher.exe as administrator.
Another fix you could try is to do the following:
1) Renaming my WTF folder. (any name)
2) Running wow.exe
3) Logging in to the game. (All the way, actually entering the world with a character)
4) Exiting game.
5) Running the launcher.
Another thing which  you could do is go to the location of the Agent.exe and delete the file. On my Windows it was located at C:\ProgramData\Battle.net\Agent Just delete the whole folder, or better yet, zip it and move it before you delete it, to have a backup of it.

Another thing you could do if you have trouble download the MoP beta updates is to delete the updates folder in your WoW directory.

The problem was probably caused by the blizzard's development updating team, read the blue post here

How to play on localhost MoP Beta

Ok, lets say that there is finally some server for World of Wacraft: Mist of Pandaria Beta, and that it's playable good enough (yes, there is one or two github repositories about it already, but nothing worth mentioning yet).
And lets say you wish to play it on localhost (Sandbox, or whatever) or on other server.
And maybe you have noticed that there is no longer realmlist.wtf ? So how can you set a custom realmlist?

There are 2 ways:
1. Way: edit the Config.txt file
At the *InstallDir*\World of Warcraft Beta\WTF you will find a file called Config.wtf (this is the new realmlist.txt as it seems).

In the file write
SET realmlist localhost
and save it. Done!
This way is shorter, faster and you don't need admin access, but it might get bugged.

If you have any issues, just try this one:

2. Way: Edit your hosts file:
To do so do the following (work on Windows XP/Vista/7):
Click on Start menu-> All Programs-> Accessories-> Right click on Notepad and select Run as Administrator. (you need to have admin access, don't worry you won't mess up anything).
Once there, click File-> Open and there paste
%systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Once there you should see a list which starts with something like

At the bottom of it paste this:
